ROD WEIGHT

This is simply how much a rod will weigh. The higher the modulus of the material the blank is made from the less material has to be used to achieve the same stiffness. This means that a very high modulus graphite fly rod will weigh less than a low modulus graphite or fiberglass rod because it takes less material to reach the desired stiffness. The other thing to consider here is that most rod blank manufacturers only put extremely high modulus graphite into their fast and extra fast action rods. This means that the part of the rod with thicker walls goes higher up the rod blank. This means that a very high modulus fast action rod will weigh the same as one with a slower action but heavier fibers.

A larger grip can help with fatigue when fishing with a heavy rod.
